Therefore the usability of freeware Google Maps and Windows' Virtual Earth Map Control was tested as activity of CAENTI WP 4M by Peter Pehani (IAPS ZRC SAZU) to find a solution that is cost effective, simple and well known. Both solutions are not appropriate for serious internet GIS application, since they are much too simple. However, they are very practical if simple and easy – and cheap – solutions are looked for.

In the frame of CAENTI Wp4m activity and SISTEMaPARC projects Žiga Kokalj and Tomaž Podobnikar (IAPS ZRC SAZU) studied Triglav national park (Slovenia). Their analyse of the land use dynamics was based on analogue maps, aerial photographs, and digital datasets since the end of 18th century until present.

Historical maps are one of the most important data sources for spatial analyses of the historical environment. The study tried to get clearer understanding of technical and semantic aspects of historical maps together with interpreted GIS-based land use datasets.

I3M | 23/11/2006 12:58

Philippe HERBAUX thesis was publicly presented in the University of Toulon-Var on May, the 31st 2006. It is entitled “Territorial intelligence, from a general representation to the “finality” concept” and it was received with a very honourable mention. With a very strong epistemological contribution, this thesis that was made in a research-action way helps finding a reading direction of the information mutualisation processes within the firms and organizations. All these elements are presented in an integrated approach of territorial intelligence.
