After a progress report published in March 2009, the temporary mission, created in October 2008 to think about territorial reform in France, wanted to deepen its analyses on governance, competences’ clarification and local finances.

The journal Territoire en Mouvement (Territory in movement) edits a call for contributions for a coming issue on the topic of “Territory and participative governance. Different perspectives from France and Quebec” (deadline: 30th October 2009).

Three applied research projects commissioned by ESPON have now delivered their Interim Reports. The projects cover three important research areas in order to support policy development related to territorial development and cohesion.

Mihai Pascaru and Călina Ana Buţiu (University of Alba Iulia, Romania) published, in the Journal for the Study of Religions and Ideologies, an entitled article "Civil Society, Public Participation, and Religious Affiliation. Exploratory Investigations in the Livezile-Rimetea Area (Apuseni Mountains, Romania)".

This event (4-8 November 2009) will be the seventh annual international conference of territorial intelligence. The first conference took place in 2003 in Besançon and was the starting point for setting up the European Network of Territorial Intelligence on the basis of the Catalyse Method users network that had progressively been build up in Europe since the 1990’s.

The ThéMA laboratory organizes an international symposium : "Le Sahara et ses marges: enjeux et perspectives de territoires en mutation" (" The Sahara and its margins : issues and prospects of territories in transformation") in Besançon, from 18th to 20th June.

Applied Research Projects, conducted under the ESPON 2013 Programme, create European wide, comparable information and evidence on territorial potentials and challenges focusing on opportunities for success for the development of regions and cities. The first Interim Reports of two ESPON Projects are now available.

The Norois Journal last issue, entitled “Territorial Governance systems and tools”, under the direction of Sylvie Lardon, Eduardo Chia and Hélène Rey-Valette, gathers contributions from the workshop “Tools for Territorial Governance” that took place during the Joint Conference of the European Regional Science Association and the Association de Science Régionale de Langue Française (Paris and Cergy-Pontoise, 29th August-2nd September 2007).

This publication describes European Research projects funded by the Socio-economic Sciences and Humanities theme of the seventh Framework Programme in 2007, 2008 and 2009. These projects concern the Lisbon strategy, sustainable development and regional cohesion, major societal trends, Europe in the world, the citizen in the EU, indicators, foresight and infrastructure.

G-FORS, an SSH project of the 6th Research Framework Programme, organises its final conference on "Governance for Sustainability - Multi-level governance, sustainability, sustainable development, knowledge, reflexive knowledge, management of environmental resources"

EUDIMENSIONS project (FP6) organises its final conference on "Local Dimensions of a Wider European Neighbourhood"

caENTI es un proyecto de investigación en humanidades y ciencias sociales de 3 años que fue financiado en el marco del 6to Programa-Marco de Investigación y de Desarrollo Tecnológico, hasta el 28 febrero 2009. Durante este seminario de difusión, los líderes de work packages de caENTI presentarán las actividades y los resultados finales del proyecto, y después debatirán con el publico.

La nueva red latino-americana "Territorios Posibles" fue lanzada durante los duodécimo encuentros de los geógrafos de América latina. Este encuentro que tiene lugar en Montevideo (Uruguay) desde el 3 hasta el 7 de abril 2009 reúne más de 2500 geógrafos.

Este informe presenta una breve descripción de los proyectos centrados en el ámbito de la migración y de la integración de los migrantes financiados durante los últimos cinco años, sus principales resultados y la relevancia de la política europea.

La Red de Excelencia CINEFOGO (Sociedad Civil y futuras formas de gobernanza en Europa –creación de una ciudadanía europea-) organizará su conferencia final dedicada a los "Derechos sociales, ciudadanía activa y gobernanza en la Unión Europea" los 17 y 18 marzo en Bruselas, en Bélgica.

La tercera conferencia INSPIRE tendrá lugar en Rotterdam, en los Países bajos, desde el 15 hasta el 19 de junio 2009 de manera coordinada con la undécima conferencia internacional de la asociación GSDI, “Construir puentes en la infraestrúctura de datos espaciales para afrontar los desafios globales” y la conferencia nacional sobre la SDI neerlandesa.

Uno de los ejes del programma europeo e-contentPlus, que se acabó al final del año 2008, concierne la información geográfica y la mejora de su contenido y de su acceso por la directiva INSPIRE (2007/2/CE) sobre la creación de una infraestrúctura géográfica europea.
