Job-LIFE: objective of the research axis {job systems}

After a paper about the main objectives of the project Job-LIFE and another one about the research Axis {life quality}, the present editorial introduces a second research axis of the project: {job system}.

 

It was elaborated in the Framework of the project " Future jobs for a better life " (Job-LIFE), which is an answer of the ENTI to the call for project of the 7th Framework Program for Research, Technological Development and Demonstration Activities of the European Union FP7, in the theme “Socio-economic Sciences and the Humanities” in the topic “Creating and adapting jobs in Europe in the context of a socio-ecological transition”.

 

This axis “Territorial job systems, innovation and governance for creating and adapting jobs in the socio-ecological transition”, will focus on the identification of territorial trends of creation and adaptation of employment in the framework of the current socio-ecological transition. It will address positive experiences of social and ecological innovation and discuss the characteristics of territorial governance of employment systems in order to detect those that are potentially favorable to the creation and the adaptation of jobs in this new context...

 

Main {job systems} aims are:

  • To generate a better understanding of the functioning of territorial dynamics of creation and adaptation of employment.
  • To anticipate future skills and competences.
  • To address impact of these territorial dynamics on people’s employment life cycle.
  • To identify emergent innovating social and ecological experiences.
  • To establish main recommendations to policies makers in order to foster this innovating projects.
  • To identify different models of local employment governance.
  • To discuss the way in which European strategy of "flexicurity" can be translated into local policies of employment development.
  • To identify, select and conceptualize most suitable methods and tools in monitoring employment projects and in assessing employment policies.
 

To reach its ambitions, the research axis {job system} will work in a comparative approach considering different areas representing different welfare regimes in Europe: Nordic, Continental, Liberal and Mediterranean.

The axis is divided into three WP (work-packages), [systems], [innovation] and [governance]:

Territorial job systems and multi sector projects monitoring in sustainable development Socio-ecological innovation towards corporate citizenship Employment territorial governance, new territorial political frameworks
  • It shall identify in selected territories different trends of jobs creation and adaptation in the framework of the socio-ecological transition.
  • It shall establish a multidimensional and participatory methodology of conceptualizing, analyzing and monitoring local labor systems and clusters.
  • The evolution of the so called “green jobs” emerging from socio-ecological transition will be specially addressed.
  • It shall study positive experiences of social and ecological innovation in territorial areas and the conditions which must be given in order them to extend and to foster the socio-ecological transition at global level.
  • This WP will be draft an inventory of existing experiences and a list of argumentations specially addressed to policy makers, entrepreneurs and social civil encouraging them to innovate in this same way.

It shall analyze and discuss:

  • main characteristics of territorial governance systems potentially favorable to the creation and the adaptation of jobs in this new context,
  • current practices of territorial employment evaluation and
  • the role of stakeholders in defining territorial sustainable development policies which are specially driven to get better jobs for a better life.
